MAUSOLEUM

Located on Payneham, the Mausoleum is located next to the the Payneham Cemetery.

Our approach to this project was to create a design that would  be simultaneously contemporary and classic. Creating a gallery with breaking points on the sides, these being wide corridors, not only allows the attending public to visit and walk among their loved ones as well as it improves the aesthetics of the main gallery. When the corridors on the sides, working as reflection paths, meet the main gallery, working as a function room, the resulting ceiling is a contemporary shaped game of shadows and planes on the inside but a traditional and simple roof on the outside. Keeping  simple roof forms on the the outside, to complement and merge it with the surrounding residential area, was one of the main points to achieve since it was one of the main considerations of the local Council.
